In a few couple of days before, we talked about the grand finale of Fortnite Halloween themed event Fortnitemares. At the time, most players guess the upcoming one-time event must have some links with the mysterious purple cube which has been moving around the map since season 5. It has recently been projecting a laser beam straight into the sky, and is connected to the Cube Monsters.

To our surprise, on the latest weekend, something new finally happens. You can check the video below. As you can see from the video, the cube at the center of Leaky Lake first began to spin uncontrollably before it unleashed a bright light and sent everyone into an endless new dimension. In the new dimension, players can move freely with butterflies emerge and float about the area. When players who got close enough would start an animation that ultimately returned them to the normal map, and we find that the original Leaky Lake has transformed once again into a new area with additional land.

 

This event happened at about 1 Pm, November 4 when the Fortnite cube began to spin and pulse. In fact, Epic has teased something big in a tweet last week advising players to be in-game for the end of the Fortnitemares Halloween event. Many players suspected this event would signal the end of the mysterious cube, which is called Kevin by players, and Fortnite dataminers found references to the cube cracking and the codename “butterfly”, suggesting something would emerge from the cube once it destructed.

At the end of season 5, The Kevin was created by a lightning strike near Paradise Palms. The the cube began to roll across the game’s map, leaving glowing purple runes in his wake. In mid-September he destroyed part of Tilted Towers before eventually arriving in the final destination-Loot Lake, turning the surface purple and bouncy.

At the beginning of Season 6, Kevin emerged from the lake, carrying the area’s island into the sky with him. The island then drifted across the map, activating the runes, which became corrupted areas full of Shadow Stones, before returning to the lake. At the start of the Fortnitemares event, the island fractured and Kevin released a fissure of purple light (and also monsters). Since then, Kevin has been cracking, leading up to the explosion. The whole process lasted for a minute or so and then all players were transported back to the Fortnite island, which featured a brand-new location. The former Loot Lake, which had turned into the home of the cube and its floating island, now has a new landmass made up of a series of smaller islands. There are likely other changes to the map as well that we’ ll see discovered in the coming hours and days.

In addition to the new in-game location, Epic has also added a series of new challenges, dubbed “Lil” Kev challenges, after the nickname Kevin that the community gave to the cube. The Fortnite Lil Kev Challenge are now available now and will provide players with a special Backbling item on completion. The Lil Kev event runs from November 5 to November 11. Players have to log in by the following times on Monday, November 5th to access the challenges. The Lil Kev event objectives and rewards are:

Play 15 Matches (reward - 500 XP)
Gain 5,000 XP (reward - 500 XP)
Outlive 500 opponents (reward - 500 XP)
