EA FC 27 The Grounds Explained: Clubs, Street Football & Progression

  2026-08-28 14:52:59
EA SPORTS FC 27 is giving its social football experience a major overhaul with The Grounds, a new shared football playground designed to connect Clubs, street football, casual activities, competitive matches, and player progression. Instead of treating Clubs as an isolated menu-based mode, FC 27 places it inside a living social world where up to 100 players can meet, play and explore together. As players prepare to explore everything FC 27 has to offer, those looking for additional in-game currency options can also buy FC 27 Coins from mmocs before jumping into the new season.

Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, The Grounds combines traditional stadium football with small-sided matches, Kickabouts, Rush and social activities. It is also designed as an evolving live-service space, meaning its activities, rewards and atmosphere can change throughout the FC 27 season.

What Is The Grounds in EA FC 27?

The Grounds is built around a central area called The Terrace, which connects players to three football-inspired districts and the main competitive areas.

Each district represents a different football culture:
Area Football Inspiration Main Role
The Terrace Central social hub Connects districts, Clubhouse and content
Montclair French urban football Cage pitches and small-sided football
Zeiza Argentine Potrero culture Street football in a European-Latin environment
Parkside UK working-class football Casual and community football atmosphere
Clubhouse Your Club identity Clubs matches, progression and customization
11v11 Stadium Traditional team football 11v11 Drop-In matches
Rush Stadium Fast competitive football Ranked Rush and Rush Tournaments
The Terrace acts as the starting point. From there, players can visit their Clubhouse, explore the different districts, check information kiosks, browse The Grounds Store or move toward competitive stadium experiences.

EA also plans to update this world throughout the year with new seasons, campaigns, rewards and live events.

Clubs Becomes Part of a Larger Football World

Clubs remains a major part of FC 27, but it is now integrated directly into The Grounds.

Your Clubhouse serves as the main home for your team. The Clubhouse entrance and Clubs Stadium can visually reflect your Club's identity and customization, giving groups a more recognizable home inside the shared world.

Traditional competitive systems are still present, including Clubs Leagues and Playoffs, but FC 27 expands the experience with Clubs Live Tournaments.

These are 11v11 competitions that can vary in rounds, rules and rewards. EA can also apply different House Rules, including:
  • Mystery Ball
  • King of the Hill
  • No Rules
  • Headers and Volleys
  • Survival
  • Long Range
This gives Clubs players something different to pursue beyond repeatedly playing standard League and Playoff matches.

Street Football and Small-Sided Matches

The Grounds is not limited to 11v11 football. One of its biggest goals is to bring smaller and more informal forms of football into the same ecosystem.

Players can compete in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and Rush matches across pitches located throughout the world.

Small-sided games are designed to be quick. The first valid goal immediately wins the match, while a game ends in a draw if neither side scores within the available time.

That structure makes these matches suitable for players who want quick competition without committing to a full stadium match.

There are also Kickabouts and other activities scattered around The Grounds. This means progression does not always require entering a traditional matchmaking queue.

Football Mentors in The Grounds

Several recognizable football personalities act as Mentors, each representing a different part of The Grounds experience.

Alex Hunter returns from The Journey and focuses on player improvement challenges inspired by his journey from prospect to established player.

Kylian Mbappé is associated with small-sided football, agility and creativity, drawing inspiration from the local pitches of Bondy.

Chloe Kelly represents grassroots football and Kickabout-style activities built around freedom, creativity and playing socially.

Paulo Dybala is connected more closely with Clubs and Stadium events, emphasizing teamwork, loyalty and Club identity.

Together, these Mentors help give different areas and activities their own football identity rather than making The Grounds simply a large matchmaking lobby.

More Than Matches: Activities Around the World

The Grounds also contains activities that do not follow standard match rules.

One example is Drop Kick Targets. Players can find targets around the world, spawn a ball and attempt to hit them by controlling the power and timing of their kicks.

Weekly Objectives can encourage players to explore different parts of the map and break these targets for rewards.

EA has also revealed a wider selection of in-world activities, helping The Grounds function as a football playground rather than simply another competitive mode.

This creates a gameplay loop where players can:
  • Explore the different districts
  • Meet and play with other players
  • Complete Kickabouts and football activities
  • Enter small-sided matches
  • Play Rush
  • Compete in 11v11 Clubs matches
  • Complete Objectives
  • Earn progression items and rewards
  • Return for seasonal Campaigns and events

Archetypes Are More Flexible in FC 27

The Grounds is closely connected to the development of your created Pro, and FC 27 makes several important changes to Archetypes.

Most importantly, all Archetypes are unlocked by default.

Players therefore do not have to spend the beginning of the game unlocking access to different play styles. You can immediately experiment with the Archetype that best suits your preferred position or role.

Build customization is also more flexible. Archetype resets no longer require Coins or reset consumables, and individual attributes can be adjusted without completely resetting the build.

Changes can be made from the in-world menu, Clubhouse, Clubs or Rush lobbies.

This should make experimenting with different builds much easier, especially for players who regularly switch positions for their Club.

Masteries Reward Long-Term Progression

One of FC 27's most important progression additions is Masteries.

Instead of progression being completely isolated between different Archetypes, reaching certain milestones with one Archetype can now provide permanent Attribute bonuses across all of your builds.
For example, reaching Level 10 with the Finisher Archetype provides +1 Finishing and +1 Composure to every Archetype used by that Pro.

Other Masteries improve attributes such as:
  • Sprint Speed
  • Strength
  • Interceptions
  • Short Passing
  • Ball Control
  • Vision
  • Dribbling
  • Acceleration
  • Crossing
  • Goalkeeper Reflexes
The idea is to reward players for developing multiple Archetypes instead of relying on the same build throughout the entire year.

Over time, mastering different roles makes the player's Pro stronger overall.

How Amps Work in FC 27

Another new progression feature is Amps, temporary items that modify the performance of an active Archetype.

There are four tiers split between Standard and Signature Amps.

Standard Amps
Tier 1 provides Attribute boosts, while Tier 2 offers stronger Attribute boosts.

Signature Amps
Tier 3 can provide stronger Attribute boosts, PlayStyles and Perks, while Tier 4 can include stronger boosts, PlayStyles+ and Perks.

Players can equip up to three Amps simultaneously, consisting of two Standard Amps and one Signature Amp.

However, Amps are not permanent. Each can only be used for a set number of matches before expiring.

They apply to Stadium matches and in-world Rush, creating another layer of build management before competitive games.

Players can earn Amps through Objectives, Campaigns, Live Events and season progression, while additional Amps will also be available through the Store.

Consumables Help Players Progress Archetypes

Consumables also return, but FC 27 introduces more targeted versions.

Some Consumables can directly provide Archetype XP, or AXP, to specific builds. For example, an item might provide XP specifically to the Boss Archetype, while another could apply to any Midfield Archetype.

Individual Consumables can also have their own level caps.

This system is particularly useful for players joining FC 27 later in the season because it provides additional ways to catch up without relying entirely on match-by-match progression.

Club Objectives Encourage Team Progression

Progression is not limited to individual Pros. FC 27 introduces expanded Club Objectives, allowing members to contribute toward shared goals.

A Club Objective could require the team to win five League matches, while another might track 50 combined 1v1 victories across all Club members.

EA divides these objectives into several categories:
  • Club Milestones: Long-term Bronze, Silver and Gold goals that reward Fans and improve Club reputation.
  • Club Weeklies and Seasonals: Recurring objectives that can reward Amps, Consumables and Coins.
  • Elite Objectives: Additional challenges and rewards for Clubs that reach the Elite Division.
Importantly, not every Club member needs to be online together to contribute. Players can make progress through different experiences across The Grounds.

Live Events Will Keep The Grounds Changing

EA plans to treat The Grounds as an evolving space rather than a static launch feature.

Campaigns and live updates can modify the world's appearance, activities, rewards and Store content. In-World Events can also connect several activities into one larger progression path.

For example, an event could begin with Kickabouts or small-sided matches in one district before eventually leading players into a larger Rush or 11v11 Stadium competition.

That structure gives EA room to introduce new challenges and rewards throughout FC 27's seasonal cycle.

Is The Grounds the Biggest Clubs Change in FC 27?

The Grounds represents a significant shift in how EA approaches social football in the series.

Instead of separating street football, Clubs, Rush, casual activities and player progression into disconnected experiences, FC 27 attempts to place them inside one shared football environment.

For competitive Clubs players, Leagues and Playoffs remain important, while Live Tournaments add another 11v11 option. For more casual players, Kickabouts, small-sided football, Rush and world activities provide shorter ways to play.

Meanwhile, Masteries, Amps, improved Archetype customization and Club Objectives create progression systems that encourage players to experiment with different roles and activities.

The result is a mode designed to make your Pro and Club feel like part of a broader football world. Whether The Grounds can remain engaging across an entire FC 27 season will depend heavily on the quality of its Campaigns and live updates, but its combination of Clubs, street football and long-term progression makes it one of EA SPORTS FC 27's most ambitious new features.
