One of the Most Improved Fantasy Teams for NHL 2018-19 - Calgary Flames

Yesterday, we have introduced that there are three most improved fantasy teams in NHL 2018-19. And then, Buffalo Sabres was being introduced in the following. Today, we will continue this topic and introduce more details about the second team that has been considered as one of the most improved team for NHL 2018-19, which is Calgary Flames.

In last season, the Flames showed a ton of promise, but dealt with injuries down the stretch and faded in the standings (5-13-1 in final 19 games) before missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

There is plenty of optimism with the Flames if their players stay healthy. Center Sean Monahan missed the final seven regular-season games last season and underwent wrist, groin and two hernia surgeries in April. Left wing Matthew Tkachuk (upper body) and goalie Mike Smith (lower body) also missed time in the second half, but each should be ready for training camp. Monahan and Gaudreau have been an elite duo on the first line, Tkachuk (finished in Yahoo's top 100 each of his two NHL seasons) has 60-point potential with strong category coverage, and Smith could be a top 10 fantasy goalie. Prior to Smith's injury Feb. 11, he was 23-16-6 with a .921 SV% and two shutouts.

After the match, the coach Glen Gulutzan is gone behind the bench. In his place is former Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters. Peters failed to make the playoffs in four season with Carolina. Calgary continued their shake up at the draft, trading Dougie Hamilton and Micheal Ferland to Carolina in exchange for Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm.

Heading into 2018-19, the Flames have one goal in mind: make the playoffs. But with questionable leadership and banged up goaltending, can they do it?

Calgary Flames

Peters has brought some familiar faces with him to the Flames, who acquired forward Elias Lindholm and defenseman Noah Hanifin from the Hurricanes on June 23. Lindholm had 44 points (16 goals, 28 assists) in 81 games last season, but was a consistent secondary scorer for Carolina who provides the Flames with power-play depth (at least 10 power-play points in three of past four seasons) and face-off efficiency (54.5 percent last season; Matt Stajan led Calgary at 51.4 percent last season, minimum 200 face-offs). Hanifin is still developing defensively, but his offensive game began to flourish last season; he scored more goals (10) then he had in his first two seasons combined (eight) and made his first NHL All-Star Game appearance. With Dougie Hamilton being traded to the Hurricanes, veteran Mark Giordano remains a workhorse No. 1 fantasy defenseman, with Hanifin likely to get every opportunity to fill Hamilton's role.

They signed one of the league's most consistent goal scorers in James Neal. They added a versatile, and productive, depth forward in Derek Ryan. They took a chance on someone with very encouraging underlying numbers in Austin Czarnik. They also cleared room for AHL standout Andrew Mangiapane.

The Flames walked away from Matt Stajan in free agency. They bought out the disaster that was Troy Brouwer. Garnet Hathaway and Curtis Lazar, who somehow combined to play in 124 games last season, will be rotational forwards if they crack the roster at all.

Naturally, it is not difficult for us to image that the price of the players also will get a promotion.
